Original Description:

Latin- Shell wide and perspective umbilicate, depressed, sublenticular; keeled, slender, yellowish-horny, red screech, interrupted by bandages decorated, with strong winding ribs removed, extremely rough on both sides; anfr. 5 1/2, planes oblique lunar-oval aperture; perist simple and sharp. Diam. maj. 18, min. 16; alt. 6 mill. Hab. In mont. Carolina Sept. more than 13 specimens.Obs.
H. alternata very closely related, but with stronger ribs, ad 1 mill. remote and distinct from each other. H. Cumberlandian Lea (perhaps merely monstrous in form), as the keel fits, differs (from
icon) tautum shell slightly grooved or ribbed
