Malacology
Malacology is the study of mollusks. This includes animals like octopus, snails, slugs, and clams. It is the second largest phylum of animals, making them one of the most successful groups on the planet. There are over 80,000 described species of mollusks with many more left to be discovered. Mullusca is composed of 8 recognized classes including Cephalopoda, Gastropoda, Polyplacophora, Scaphapoda, Monoplacophorans, the Aplacophorans, Caudofoveata and Solenogastres, and Bivalvia.

Original Description:
T. rimato-perforata, supernc depressa, costulato-striata, siibtus inflato-convexa, laeviuscula ; alba vel fnsco-cornea, tenui, spira brevissima ; anfr. 5^-6, planiusculis, ultimo ad apertnrara deflexo, breviter disjuncto, constricto, vix scrobiculato ; apertura subhorizontali, auriformi, coarctata ; perist. acuto, continuo, marginibus plica linguiformi, brevi, intrante junctis ; dextro lamella obtusa, submarginali, basali tuberculo dentiformi, obliquo et sinuoso, instructo. Shell perforate, above depressed, with rib-like striae, beneath inflated, convex, almost smooth, and with microscopic spiral lines ; white, or brown horn-color, thin ; spire very short ; whorls 5 ½ to 6, rather flat, the last deflected, and shortly turned outwards from the preceding whorl, constricted, scarcely scrobiculate ; aperture sub-horizontal, ear -shaped, contracted ; peristome acute, continuous, the margins joined by a short linguiform fold, entering within the aperture ; the right margin with an obtuse submarginal lamella, and the base with an oblique sinuous, tooth-like fold.
