Malacology
Malacology is the study of mollusks. This includes animals like octopus, snails, slugs, and clams. It is the second largest phylum of animals, making them one of the most successful groups on the planet. There are over 80,000 described species of mollusks with many more left to be discovered. Mullusca is composed of 8 recognized classes including Cephalopoda, Gastropoda, Polyplacophora, Scaphapoda, Monoplacophorans, the Aplacophorans, Caudofoveata and Solenogastres, and Bivalvia.

Etymology
Original Description:
Spire convex; volutions five, wrinkled across; suture not profoundly impressed; aperture straight; labrum reflected. bidentate, teeth seperated by a profound sinus, the superior teeth inflected, behind the lip a profound groove, which abrubtly contracts the aperture in that part, so that although the lip is reflected, yet its edge is not more prominent than the general exterior surface of the body whorl, at base the lip is adpressed and covers the umbilicus; labrum with a large prominent oblique lamelliform tooth; umbilicus closed.
Greatest trnasverse diameter nearly 9-20 of an inch.
Inhabits Lower Missouri.
The teeth of the labrum somewhat resembles those of tridentata; but in the form of the grooves behind the labrum, and the pillar tooth, it resembles H. hirsuta, several specimens were found, but all dead shells, and destitute of their epidermis.
